What's Going On (1971)
Told from the point of view of a Vietnam veteran returning home to hatred, poverty and injustice, this 1971 soul record moves as one continuous song cycle. Marvin Gaye produced it himself, backed by Motown's house band the Funk Brothers, and its three singles all reached the Hot 100 top ten. Rolling Stone named it the greatest album of all time.
