Unknown Pleasures (1979)

By Joy Division

Stark post-punk built from spare basslines, echoing drums and Ian Curtis's low, bleak vocals, shaped by producer Martin Hannett's unconventional studio techniques. It was the English band Joy Division's 1979 debut on Factory Records, the only album released in Curtis's lifetime, with cover art plotting signals from a radio pulsar. NME and Rolling Stone rank it among the best albums ever made.
