Post-disco and synth-pop songs about paranoia, romance and social conscience, built from funk and rock parts by producer Quincy Jones. Michael Jackson had worked with Jones on Off the Wall (1979) and recorded this one in Los Angeles in 1982. It won eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and produced seven Top 10 hits.
