The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)

Droning, minimal rock songs about drug abuse, prostitution, sadomasochism and life in New York, sung by Lou Reed and, on several tracks, the German singer Nico. Recorded in 1966 with Andy Warhol as co-producer and sleeve designer, it flopped on release, was banned by record stores and later topped Pitchfork's list of the best albums of the 1960s.
