The Joshua Tree (1987)

By U2

Trades ambient experiment for big, ringing rock songs about America, both the real country and the mythical one, with spiritual imagery and political anger running through the lyrics. The Irish band U2 (The Unforgettable Fire) recorded it with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. It won Album of the Year at the 1988 Grammys and produced "With or Without You."
