The Downward Spiral (1994)

By Nine Inch Nails

A concept album tracing one misanthropic narrator's descent through addiction, violence and self-destruction toward suicide, set to industrial rock that moves between abrasive noise, techno, metal and ambient quiet. Trent Reznor, who broke through with Pretty Hate Machine, recorded it in a home studio built inside the house of the Tate murders. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.
