Talking Timbuktu (1994)

By Ali Farka Touré

Malian guitar lines and American slide playing wind around each other on this 1994 meeting between Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder, the US guitarist and producer who brought the two traditions into one room. The riff from "Diaraby" became the Geo-quiz theme on PRI-BBC's The World, kept by listener vote. It earned a gold certification in Europe in 2009 for sales above 100,000.
