Strange Mercy (2011)

By St. Vincent

Distorted guitars and synths press against clear, controlled vocals on this third album from St. Vincent, the American musician born Annie Clark, with songs like "Cruel," "Cheerleader" and "Surgeon" turning unease into pop shapes. Released in September 2011, it reached No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and later placed 23rd on Pitchfork's best albums of the decade so far list.
