Storytelling folk rock built on guitar and character sketches, with a title song drawn from Thomas Pynchon's novel Mason & Dixon, about the English surveyors who mapped the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland in the 1760s. Mark Knopfler, the British guitarist who led Dire Straits, brings in James Taylor, Van Morrison and Squeeze on guest vocals.
