Racine Carrée (2013)

By Stromae

Sets French lyrics about absent fathers, failing relationships, discrimination, social media loneliness and illness over 1990s dance beats with Caribbean and African influences. Belgian musician Stromae recorded this 2013 second album in an attic, and critics compared his writing to that of Jacques Brel. It topped the charts in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy, led by the singles "Papaoutai" and "Formidable".
