Paid in Full (1987)

By Eric B. & Rakim

Spare, heavily sampled funk breaks under Rakim's calm, dense rhyming, recorded partly at Marley Marl's home studio in New York. The 1987 debut from DJ Eric B. and rapper Rakim produced five singles, including "Eric B. Is President" and "I Know You Got Soul," went platinum, and landed at number 61 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
