Lady Soul (1968)
Gospel-raised soul singing pushed to full force across a set of blues, R&B and pop, from a singer who had already turned Atlantic Records into her home base. Released in January 1968, it spent sixteen weeks at number one on Billboard's R&B album chart and reached number two on the pop chart during a run that lasted a year. For fans of big-voiced classic soul.
