Kind of Blue (1959)

Spacious, unhurried jazz built on modal scales rather than dense chord changes, giving each soloist room to shape a melody. Trumpeter Miles Davis recorded it in 1959 with a sextet including saxophonists John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley and pianist Bill Evans. Rolling Stone placed it at number 12 on its 500 Greatest Albums list in 2003. For fans of calm, open-ended playing.
