Graceland (1986)

By Paul Simon

Pairs bright South African styles like mbaqanga and isicathamiya with pop, rock and zydeco, built from two weeks of sessions in Johannesburg and further recordings in the US with Linda Ronstadt, the Everly Brothers and Los Lobos. Simon, the American singer-songwriter behind Hearts and Bones, made his biggest seller here: it won the 1987 Grammy for Album of the Year.
