Girlfriend (1991)

By Matthew Sweet

Bright, hook-heavy power pop about heartbreak, built on jangling guitars from Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd. It was the breakthrough for American songwriter Matthew Sweet, certified gold, with a title track that reached the top five on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.
