Funeral (2004)

By Arcade Fire

Swelling indie rock built from strings, organ and ragged group vocals, written in the wake of several band members losing family. Its first half, the "Neighborhood" suite, imagines a town stuck in winter without power, drawn from the 1998 ice storm. The debut from Montreal's Arcade Fire produced five singles, including "Rebellion (Lies)," and was nominated for a 2005 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
