Dummy (1994)

By Portishead

Slow, smoky beats and scratchy samples sit under Beth Gibbons' aching vocals across this 1994 debut from the English band Portishead, a record of late night unease and heartbreak. It won the 1995 Mercury Music Prize and helped popularise trip hop, going on to sell 3.6 million copies worldwide. For fans of moody, cinematic electronic music.
