Coat of Many Colors (1971)

By Dolly Parton

Country songs about childhood poverty, faith and pride, led by a title track about a patchwork coat a mother sewed from rags. Parton, a Nashville singer-songwriter, calls it her favorite of all the songs she has written. The 1971 release was nominated for Album of the Year at the CMA Awards and sits at No. 257 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list.
