Chega de Saudade (1959)

Sings of longing in a hushed voice over softly syncopated guitar, the record widely credited as the first bossa nova album. It was the 1959 debut of Brazilian musician Joao Gilberto, and its title translates roughly as "enough with longing", though the Portuguese word saudade carries more complex meaning. Critics have continued to praise it into the 21st century.
