Butterfly (1997)

By Mariah Carey

Slides from airy ballads into hip hop and R&B, with Carey writing about freedom and separation over beats from Sean "Puffy" Combs, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott and the Trackmasters. The American singer's sixth album (after Daydream) produced the US number ones "Honey" and "My All," and drew three Grammy nominations in 1998. For fans of late-nineties R&B with a pop songwriter's ear.
