4 (2011)
A pop record steeped in 1970s and 1980s funk, soul and hip hop, with lyrics about monogamy, female empowerment and self-reflection. Beyonce made it after ending her working relationship with her father and manager, aiming for something more intimate than her earlier releases. "Love On Top" won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
